Lewis and Clark’s
Corps of Discovery

Task Process Resources Evaluation

The Big Question:

Why is it important to have a variety of people on an expedition or journey?

The Task:

Working in groups of four or five, you will be researching the expedition and the Corps of Discovery (the group of people who went on the expedition). It is your quest to become an expert on one of the Corps of Discovery Members.Your group will then create one PowerPoint presentation. This presentation will be used to teach the rest of your classmates about the Corps of Discovery. You will do most of your research on the internet. In order to organize your information you will need to complete the planning sheet and work cooperatively as a group to complete the PowerPoint.

The Process:

Step 1.Each group member will need to decide who they will research from the list below. After this is decided, the group will need to make sure everyone has their questions ready and know if there are any additional questions that need answered.

Step 2.In this step you will be pairing up with someone from another group. This student will need to be researching the same person as you.You and your partner will work together during the research time. This activity will allow you to become an expert on your Corps Member. The teacher will announce when the research will begin and end.You be allowed only a couple of days to research so make them count!

Step 3.When the researching is over, you will return to your group!During this step you will need to work cooperatively to create one PowerPoint. This PowerPoint will be used to teach the rest of the class about the Corps of Discovery!Be creative and have fun as a group, remember everyone has good ideas!

Step 4.The Final step in this activity will be to present you PowerPoint to the class!Remember everyone must speak during the presentation and you should look at your audience!
