Our Mission
Committed to lifelong
learning, Today...Tomorrow...Always
Why
good attendance is important?
Good school attendance and on-time arrival are two of the most important
"life skills" students can develop in the early years. Students who
attend school regularly and arrive on time tend to feel more confident and to be
more successful--academically and socially. Students who are tardy may miss out
on important instruction, directions or other classroom routines. They may also
feel embarrassed by arriving when class is already in session. They tend to lack
confidence and not feel closely connected to school. For these reasons, we
strongly encourage students to attend regularly and to be on time for school.
In general, children should
miss no more than a few days a year. Most jobs allow for one sick day per month,
or one day in 20, or 95% attendance. This is our goal for children to be in
school. Since illnesses do not occur on a 1-day-in-20 pattern, there should be
many months with no absences and only infrequent absences of short duration.
This allows children to miss no more school than is necessary while allowing for
normal recovery from routine illnesses. It also helps establish a lifetime habit
of good attendance at school and, later, at work.
Children and families should
strive to be on time for school each day, and they should take pride in being on
time. School doors open at 7:50 a.m., and students should be in class by
8:10. Our goal is for students to be on time 100% of the days they are in
school.
