Every person has the right to be treated as an exceptional human being. By being a student at Iva E. Wells Middle School you can expect these things:
The right to an education. (Teacher should be free to teach and students free to learn without being interrupted by inconsiderate or disruptive students.)
The right to be safe in school and to have personal and school property respected.
Freedom from physical abuse and/or mental abuse such as name calling, intimidation, harassment, or vulgar language. Swearing and use of inappropriate language are not acceptable. Discipline will be in compliance with school and district policy.
The right to be respected, and the right to privacy and freedom.
The right to develop ones own personality (as long as it does not interfere with the rights of others) without disrespectful criticism or pressure from peers and cliques.
During this time of your life, EDUCATION is your career. Coming to this school is your job and your basic job expectations are as followed:
1. Take paper and pencil to each class daily.
2. Take your student planner to each class daily.
3. Take appropriate textbooks to each class daily.
4. Know which classes require special materials. Be responsible for taking those materials to each appropriate class.
5. Be prepared and complete all homework assignments.
6. Be responsible for learning at school.
7. Put forth your best effort at all times.

The following items are disruptive and may interfere with the learning climate at our school. Please do not bring such items to school.
1. Cell phones, pagers, electronic games, laser pointers and CD players.
2. Boom boxes, radios, cassette players and other musical devices.
3. Dangerous objects such as knives, spike wristbands, sharp objects, lighters, matches, or any device, which can hurt people.
4. Items of distraction such as toys, water guns, whistles, balloons, stink bombs, confetti, offensive spray, rubber bands, permanent markers, fingernail polish, glitter, etc.
5. Gum, sunflower seeds, or any snacks that distract from learning and teaching.
These items do not make any contribution to academic achievement and therefore are prohibited in the building. Radios and tape recorders are not to be brought to school without prior permission. Such items are an invitation to theft and do not have a place at school. Items taken from a student may be returned to a parent. Markers will not be returned. Items that are considered to be harmful or dangerous will be given to the School Resource Officer.
The Seneca school district will provide free bus transportation for students who live more than one mile from the Middle School. If you have questions concerning transportation, routes or other issues call 776-3392. Iva E. Wells Middle School students are expected to demonstrate appropriate bus riding behavior at all times while riding to and from school or while on school activities/field trips.
1. Passengers shall obey the driver and attendant.
2. Students must be seated while on the bus, facing the front with their feet on the floor.
3. Students shall not extend their head or arms out of the window at any time.
4. No throwing of objects of any kind in our out of the bus. NO LITTERING.
5. There shall be no profanity, shouting, loud talking, whistling, and loud laughing, scuffling, spitting or disorderly or improper conduct of any kind on the bus.
6. There shall be no talking when the bus is crossing the railroad tracks.
Riding the bus to school is a service, not a right, and may be revoked if safety rules are not observed. Students must go directly to the bus-loading zone as soon as school dismisses and line up in an orderly way. Rushing a bus is dangerous to the safety of all. Drivers, administrators or bus supervisors may delay bus entrance to any student rushing to the bus. In short, be courteous and don’t use profanity. Eat or drink only before or after riding. Keep the bus clean. Cooperate with the driver. Leave all destructive urges off the bus. Stay in your seat. Keep your head, hands and feet inside. Bus drivers are authorized to assign seats, if necessary. Be considerate of others property near the bus stop.
Please pay close attention to the posted signs in the loading and unloading zone in front of the middle school.
Lockers are provided for students’ convenience to keep books and other property needed at school. Each student will be assigned a locker. All books and personal items, when no in use including heavy coats, are to be kept in your locker. Remember that you will have only four minutes between classes, so plan your visits to your locker accordingly.
1. Use only lockers assigned to you, and do not share lockers.
2. Do not give your combination to other students.
3. Lockers must be kept clean at all times. Writing on the outside or inside of lockers is prohibited.
4. Lockers must be kept in good condition. If a locker is knowingly abused, you will lose the use of the locker and pay for damages.
5. Do not leave valuable personal property in lockers.
6. Lockers remain the property of Iva E. Wells and may be subject to inspection by the school administration at any time.
7. Storage of inappropriate or illegal items is not allowed. Spray paint, permanent ink markers, or other graffiti tools, water pistols, lighters, fireworks, any weapon: real or simulated, obscene writing or pictures, etc.
8. Safe School violation items (drugs, alcohol, tobacco, weapons, etc.) will be confiscated and not returned.
9. Students’ rights will be protected if a law enforcement officer initiates a locker search.
10. Students will be charged for loss or damage of school property or equipment placed in their care.
11. A Theft or Loss report should be filed in the main office if property is stolen or misplaced.
We believe in recognizing and rewarding excellence. Each year we try to increase our efforts in making awards and opportunities for recognizing our top students and those students who make great strides of improvement. Honor assemblies are one thing we do each term. Others include:
All school personnel may use these to recognize students who perform praiseworthy deeds around the school. Examples of praiseworthy deeds might include: Cleaning up in the classroom, picking up trash in or around the school, returning a lost item, assisting with an activity, contributing to class discussions, etc. When given to a student the teacher will write the student and teacher’s name on the slip. The teacher will put the cards in a box in the office to qualify the student for the monthly drawing.
Each day a faculty member will select a single student that exemplifies the Quality Iva E. Wells Student. The student is then announced and brought to the office to be honored by Mr. Wallace.
P.B.T. (Perfect Behavior Trip)
All 8th graders who have gone a full three years of school without any discipline problems will be honored at the end of the school year with a reward trip.
To recognize outstanding academic achievement, an Honor roll has been established at the Iva E. Wells Middle School. The Honor Roll will recognize all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who have earned an overall average of 3.5 in all scheduled subjects. Also, a High Honor roll has been established for students that have earned an overall GPA of 3.75. Lastly maintaining a 3.8 GPA attains the “Principal” Honor Roll. A list of students achieving Honor roll will be sent to the local media and will be displayed at school at the end of the quarter.
