School Information


Location
Cooper County C-4 School district contains 112 square miles and is located in Pilot Grove, approximately 40 miles west of Columbia, Missouri, on Interstate 70. The District is bordered on the north by the Interstate and the town of Boonville to the Northeast. The largest town 30 miles to the southwest is Sedalia. The area is mostly farm land, with a town population of 700. There is a local independent phone company, a nursing home, a grocery store and two feed stores located in town.

Schools
Cooper County C-4 School District consists of 3 school divisions on a single campus. The District has a Pre-school (which also serves early childhood special education students), K-5 elementary, a 6-8 middle school, and a 9-12 high school, with a total enrollment of 288. Vocational high school students are served by the Boonville School District.

District Accreditation
The District is classified Accredited with Distinction in Performance by the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP) and is rated AA by the old standards.

Personnel
The District has an outstanding group of administrators, a superior faculty, a dedicated support staff, and a progressive Board of Education. The professional staff consists of 36 teachers and administrators. The support staff consists of 10 who work full time. The administrative team is composed of the superintendent, secondary and elementary principals, and two administrative assistants.  There is one section of each grade level at the elementary school except for kindergarten.  Some middle and high school teachers serve dual roles and work in both schools.

Programs, Innovations, and Trends
A number of improvements have occurred within the District over the past few years. Some of the most notable are:

Implementation of the Middle School philosophy in grades 6-8,
Implementation of a summer school program during the month of June,
Implementation of Special Education Inclusion concept in middle and high school; partial implementation in elementary,
IBM and Mac computer labs in the High School Business Technology and Science curriculum,
A consortium of five schools for the purpose of offering high level and/or dual credit classes over the Interactive Television (I-TV) Program,
Courses in applied language arts, math and biology available to high school students,
A balanced reading program supported by the Missouri Reading Initiative (MRI),
Classrooms have direct 384K access to central file serve and Internet,

 Partnering with the University of Missouri College of Education in educational renewal projects,

 Involvement in the HOPE (Harnessing Optimism and Potential through Education) program,

 Awarded the Accredited with Distinction status by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for the 2003, 2004, and 2005 school years,

Practical Parenting Program in elementary level, and
Active parent involvement program with community computer access.
