AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT
Agriculture
Science I
Prerequisite: None
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12
First year in Vocational Agriculture. Designed to teach introductory skills in
livestock selection, reproduction, genetics, and nutrition. Units of instruction
also include: leadership development, record keeping, agricultural careers,
agricultural mechanics and supervised agricultural experience program. (1 Unit)
Agriculture Science II
Prerequisite: Agricultural Science I or Instructor’s Permission
Grade: 10, 11, 12
Units of instruction include: field crops of Missouri, soils, plants, plant
growth and reproduction, small grain production, row crop production, forage
production, horticulture, leadership careers, record keeping, and agricultural
mechanics. (1 Unit)
Agriculture Construction
Prerequisite: Agricultural Science I and II or Instructor’s
Permission
Grade: 11, 12
An advanced course in agricultural mechanics designed to provide "hands-on"
construction experience. Skills are developed which are used for the farm and in
agribusiness applications. Course may be taken in both the junior and senior
years with the instructor’s permission. Units of instruction include: shop
safety, welding woodworking, and shop skills development. After instructional
units have been completed students are expected to complete projects for
themselves or others in the community. (1 Unit)
Advanced Crop Production and Marketing
Prerequisite: Agricultural Science I and II or Instructor’s Permission
Grade: 11, 12
Designed for the student wanting to increase his/her knowledge of modern crop
production practices. Units of instruction include: corn production, soybean
production, forage production, and grain marketing. (1 Unit)
Advanced Livestock Production and Marketing
Prerequisite: Agricultural Science I and II
Grade: 11, 12
Designed for the student who wants to increase his/her knowledge of livestock
production. Units of instruction include: genetics, nutrition, reproduction,
livestock selection, management, marketing, and disease prevention. Units will
deal with both swine and cattle. (1 Unit)
Agriculture Structures I
Prerequisite: Agricultural Science I and II or Instructor’s Permission
Grade: 11, 12
Topics covered relate to the design and construction of farm structures and jobs
relating to farm building construction. Areas studied include: electricity,
building layout and design, and carpentry. (1 Unit)
Agriculture Structures II
Prerequisite: Agricultural Structures I
Grade: 11, 12
A more in-depth study of the design and construction of farm structures and jobs
relating to farm building construction. Areas studied include: electricity,
plumbing, concrete, and surveying skills. (1 Unit)
