Scientific Based Reading Instruction

At Pattonsburg R-II Elementary, we are currently using Scientific Based Reading Instruction. This means that all of our reading lessons are focused around five components. The five components include: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Our students are also given the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS). This is a quick reading assessment used to determine a student's growth and progress in reading. When necessary, we also use the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) to gain further information for struggling readers.
