What exactly is a folk tale? A folk tale is any story that has been passed down through the generations. Folk tales are so familiar to us that we can tell them without having the written text in front of us. This WebQuest would be especially meaningful after a brief study of familiar folk tales, fairy tales and fables.

To successfully complete this WebQuest, a background in story elements is necessary. I have included a graphic organizer to help students plan their stories, however any style of graphic organizer which the student is familiar with can be used.

The size of groups depends on the dynamics of your own classroom. If smaller groups of two or three will fit your classroom structure you might consider using a two or three part venn diagram to compare and contrast the stories.

When student stories are completed, please forward the edited copies to me and we will publish them on this site. By doing this, others can enjoy the final copies and your student work can truly become a folk tale that is passed from person to person.
