Paintable Clay

1 cup cornstarch

2 cups baking soda (1 pound)

1 ¼ cups cold water

Mix cornstarch, baking soda and water.  **Stir this in a saucepan over medium heat for about 4 minutes until the mixture thickens.  (It will be like mashed potatoes.)  Remove the mixture from the pan, and cover with a damp cloth. After the clay cools, knead it like you would bread dough.  Store it in a plastic bag so it does not dry out.  Use the dough to create whatever your imagination can think of!  Depending on the thickness of your creation, the dough will take about one day to dry.  Be careful, the thinner the creation, the more likely it is to break.  When it is dry it is ready to paint.

**I usually cook the mixture in a plastic bowl in the microwave.  This recipe cleans up easily!
