This Web Quest was created for use with a fourth grade class, learning about the three branches of government, although it could easily be adapted for use in other grade levels. The activities have been designed to be completed in a five week timeframe, allowing approximately 40 minutes of working time each day. It may take more or less depending on your time allowance. Team size can also vary according to your classroom needs. If teams do not have four members, the jobs detailed on the process page will need to be shared accordingly.

To complete this Web Quest, students must have a background knowledge of map skills and creation of maps, including scale of miles, map key, and compass rose. Allowing students to share personal experiences about visits to monuments and what was experienced there, would also be helpful.

The visual display may be written, typed, done as a power point, hyper studio, or video presentation, depending on the equipment available to your classroom.

An additional material that might be included, is the America Rock video on The Three Ring Government. This video clip is also available on the School House Rock website.
