Cost

UMKC's Financial Aid and Scholarships Office establishes a budget for you that represents the total amount it should cost you to go to school, including allowances for tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, and transportation. We often refer to this as your Cost of Attendance or budget. You cannot receive more financial assistance than your total Cost of Attendance budget allows in one academic term. You are required to report any grant, loan, scholarship or waiver assistance that you are receiving to help you pay for school, if it is not already listed on your financial aid award package.

Additional qualifying expenses such as unexpected medical, dental and car repairs may also be included at the discretion of the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office (See Special Circumstances Appeal). We establish different standard budget amounts for students living on-campus and off-campus, in-state and out-of-state and based on your program of study. The Cost of Attendance budget also helps determine how much need-based financial aid you are eligible to receive. The following formula is used:

   Cost of Attendance
 - Expected Family Contribution (EFC) *
 _______________________________
 = Financial Need **

Students attending the University of Missouri-Kansas City are all given a living expense budget based on living off-campus, on-campus or with your parents. The living expense portion of your 2009-2010 Cost of Attendance budget is as follows:

You can view your personal Cost of Attendance budget on your Pathway account by visiting Self Service > Campus Finances > View Financial Aid > Financial Aid Summary > Estimated Financial Aid Budget.

* The Expected Family Contribution is determined by the Federal Processor who receives your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

** Financial Need refers to the amount of need-based financial aid you are eligible to receive (some Federal Aid Programs are subject to specific EFC ranges as well)
