Kathy Nanney
Fifth Grade

Educational Background: I graduated from Leopold High School in 1975.  After a period of starting a family and moving around the country with my husband's job, we moved back home and I began classes at Southeast Missouri State University in 1985.  I graduated with a degree in secondary education in 1991 but later decided to get elementary certification which was completed in 1994.  My graduate degree was completed in 2000.

Teaching Experience: I began my teaching experience at Immaculate Conception School in Jackson, Missouri in 1994.  I taught 8th grade with several periods of 7th grade classes.  My year spent at IC was rewarding and uplifting.  However, in the spring of 1995, a teaching position opened at Leopold Elementary.  I applied for the job and subsequently was hired for the 4th grade.  Shortly thereafter, the 5th grade position also became vacant, and I decided that might be a better fit for me, so I applied for that position.  That's where I have been for the past ten years.  I love my job, and I love my students.  It was been said that the perfect job is like getting paid for recess, and that's what I feel like--I am getting paid to do a job that I absolutely love!!!

Family: My family consists of my husband Don, who is employed by MAG Plastics, headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio.  We have four children: Shawn who is 30, lives in Cape Girardeau and is employed by DHL; Scott, 28, who is currently in the process of changing careers and also lives in Cape; Matt, 24, who recently married the former Leslie Richmond and who now resides in St. Peters, MO;  and Erin, 19, who will be starting her second year at Mizzou and lives in Columbia, MO.  We have one grandchild, Calli, who will be 7 years old on October 5 (our wedding anniversary!) and who is the pride and joy of Scott and Denise's life.  She will begin 1st grade at St. Mary's, Cape.

Other Interests/Hobbies:  I definitely must put family on top of my list, as they are the center of my life.  Next to them, however, I love cats and anything about them.  (That may be why we currently have four cats, or to put it more accurately, they tolerate us!) Their names: Malibu, Wubbey, Beth, and Oliver.  I also love to garden and putter with flowers, read, and travel.  After 31 years of marriage, spending time with my husband is still great fun, and our time spent together is wonderful!
