The
Process
Step 1 You
will work in a three member team. As a team, you will need to research
and review information about the Santa Fe Trail. You will need to
know the history and purpose for the trail, where the trail actually began,
why and how the trail came through Hickman Mills and the trail's impact
on the residents of Hickman Mills during this time in history.
Step 2 To begin your research for the model you have been
assigned to construct for the Centennial Celebration Exhibit, it is important
that everyone on the team have background knowledge about the Santa Fe
Trail and how the Santa Fe Trail affected the lives of residents in Hickman
Mills. Read the information on the sites listed below. You
will need to assign a notetaker, an artifact and architect designer, and
a cartographer.

*** It will
be important how your team organizes the information gathered. You
might consider using concept maps, flowcharts, graphic organizers, timelines,
drawings, a team developed list of questions to help you find and analyze
your information. This may help you know what information is important
for your project and what is not. You will also need to consider
how you will keep this research organized as you proceed through the assignment.
You might want to assign one member of your team to be in charge of keeping
the collected data.
Step 3 Once you have decided on the role you will have, you
will link to the following sites to gather the information you will need
to construct your model. Remember, you must reconstruct the community
of Hickman Mills, label artifacts, buildings, etc. that you will include
in your model, and mark the path of the Santa Fe Trail.
