- This web page lists the winners since the
award was established in 1969 to the present. This award is presented annually
to an African American author and an African American illustrator for an
outstanding inspirational and educational contribution published during the
previous year. The award was designed "to commemorate the life and work of the
late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and to honor Mrs. Coretta Scott King for her
courage and determination in continuing to work for peace and world
brotherhood." The Coretta Scott King Award books are chosen by the Social
Responsibilities Round Table of the American Library Association.
