Avenue City School

AVENUE CITY RECEIVES THE WEYERHAEUSER GRANT

We were notified recently that the school received a good portion of the money they had requested from the Weyerhaeuser Grant. The school received $4,467 of the $10,967 requested for technology expenditures. Wal-Mart will also donate $1,000 as a matching portion for these purposes. The money will be spent toward the purchase of a new server for the entire school and computers for the school district. Both are needed because they are becoming out dated due to memory capacity and age of the units.

We certainly appreciate the generosity of both companies in helping us keep up with the demands of technology. We also appreciate the efforts of the staff members (Jeana Sigrist, Amanda Scott, Michelle Kelly, Becky Grimes, and Jerry Archer) that took their time to write this grant for the school.

ACES Students, Parents, and Staff Reach Out to Help Others

The students and parents of Avenue City School have generous hearts and have proved just that this fall!

During Red Ribbon Week Mrs. Goforth and Mrs. Curry encouraged students to bring in canned food to be donated to the area “food pantry”. Students and staff members collected several boxes of canned and boxed food to be donated. This donation will help the area food pantry during the holidays. Donations of canned and boxed food will also be collected by the ACES Student Council at the Winter Program Thursday, December 9. Please leave your donation at the door when entering the gym.

When the students, parents, and staff of Avenue City School heard about the fire at the Amazonia Elementary School in the Savannah School District they wanted to reach out and help the students and teachers of that school. The Avenue students, staff, and parents collected and donated much needed school supplies for the students and teachers of the Amazonia school. Cash donations were also received. The ACES staff used the cash to purchase supplies for the teachers and students of Amazonia school. Mrs. Grimes delivered all the supplies to the church in Savannah where the students of Amazonia were temporarily attending school. The students and staff of Amazonia really appreciated the much needed supplies and responded with a large “Thank You From the Bottom of our Heart” banner. The banner is currently being displayed in the front hall way of the ACES school.

Academic Team Member Try-Outs

Academic Bowl teams have been chosen for the 2004-2005 school year.

The teams will begin matches in January. The students have so much fun and learn so much at the same time. It is a great opportunity for students to work together on a team and to recognize their strengths and weaknesses as team members.
